In May, Tamriko, the International Education Coordinator at Eureka School, together with Ekaterine, the Deputy of Education at Eureka’s Žvėrynas branch, visited several schools and organizations in Helsinki, Finland.
“Our first visit was to Bumblebees Kindergarten – an international English-language kindergarten operating under the Finnish education model and certified as a Cambridge Early Years Centre,” shared Tamriko. During the visit, the Eureka representatives discussed the strengths and challenges of Finnish education, got to know the kindergarten’s daily routine and teaching methods, and explored potential future partnerships to support the personal and professional development of the Eureka team.
Tamriko and Ekaterine later visited Jätkäsaari Comprehensive School, which serves students from grades 1 to 9. “It’s an inclusive, community-oriented, and forward-thinking school focused on future education. We learned more about phenomenon-based learning, teacher collaboration, language-aware education, and inclusive practices in today’s Finnish schools. We were impressed not only by the educational content but also by the open and creatively designed learning spaces where teachers work together to build effective environments,” Tamriko continued.
“During our visit, we also went to the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, where we had the opportunity to attend the Europe Day event, opened by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. We met various organizations and schools, including the Finnish National Agency for Erasmus+ projects and the European School of Helsinki, which awards the European Baccalaureate diploma and is fully recognized by the European Union,” added Ekaterine, Deputy of Education at the Žvėrynas branch.
The Eureka representatives were convinced that Finland has one of the most advanced and equitable education systems in the world. “We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from their experience, broaden our perspective, and we look forward to potential future cooperation!” said Tamriko.
