Why did Eureka locate in the Hero Business Centre?
School Eureka has been looking for development opportunities in the Šnipiškii district for several years. However, it is not easy to find premises for the educational activities of small children, because a closed and child-friendly yard is necessary for the organization of activities.
“There are few objects in Vilnius that can offer a closed outdoor space next to the premises. Meanwhile, Hero allocated a spacious terrace for us, which can be accessed directly from the school premises. A big advantage is that this outdoor space is away from the hustle and bustle of the streets and is oriented towards the “Dragon’s Meadow” play area installed by the municipality, where Eureka’s children will also spend part of the day”, says the head of the Eureka school, Dr. Povilas Mačiulis.
Eureka school has already tested the integration of the school in a large business center in the Žvėrynas branch (Business center “CORE”, Ukmergės st. 126, Vilnius) and this model works successfully.
“The business center is suitable for us due to convenience and other added values for customers. Hero is within easy reach of those who live and work nearby. In addition, the business center gave Eureka customers the opportunity to use the underground parking for free, so it is convenient to bring children in any weather and any time of the year. Another big advantage for the school is the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Hero building, which are focused on wellness. It’s hard to believe that this building will have a 300-meter running track. This is a great advantage for the school”, says P. Mačiulis.
The Environment
What makes an education at Eureka unique?
🌏 Full day school
In Eureka, classes start at 9:00 (children are welcome at school from 7:30), and after-school activities continue until 18:00. Extracurricular activities are included in the price of education, so parents do not need to pay extra.
🌏 Bilingual environment
Children in Eureka learn a second language every day in the same way as they learned their mother tongue – that is, by naturally, unconsciously adopting it from the linguistic environment and communicative situations. Teachers present at least 20% of the content in English every day. Pre-schoolers also have three English blocks (1.5 hours each) each week where they study using Cambridge textbooks.
🌏 Discovery-based education
Discovery-based education is unique because it systematically creates conditions for the child to learn something new every day at school: thing, phenomenon, natural object, emotion, country, etc. Eureka’s professional teachers include experiments, games, educational trips, etc. in the educational process. In this way, a continuous and intriguing process of exploring the world is created, which matures the child’s curiosity, desire to learn and know.
🌏 Development of sustainable thinking
Eureka children know why sustainability is important and how every person on the planet can contribute to it. The integrated educational content of the school is based on the 17 sustainability goals set by the United Nations. And we also learn the basics of sustainability through the connection with nature and vegetation, environmental project activities and the use of secondary raw materials.
🌏 We get wisdom from books
At Eureka, by creating a cozy environment for books, including reading in playful educational content, and applying reading strategies, we aim to form the natural motivation of the little discoverer to read. It is important for us that the child not only learns to read texts correctly, but does so consciously. Therefore, during the evening library, we read texts together, analyze books and fairy-tale characters during the weekly contextual topics, retell the stories we have heard, create our own characters, and organize events to get to know children’s books.
🌏 School without borders
In Eureka, education takes place not only in the school environment, but also while actively traveling. Outings and excursions are organized, during which the aim is to get to know, observe and explore the environment. Natural and cultural objects, museums, exhibitions, parks are visited, and cooperation with other organizations is carried out. Children listen to stories about cultural objects, photograph them, film them, draw them, model them, create stagings, share their impressions and thoughts, express their assessments.
🌏 Thinking Education
We encourage children of the Eureka preschool class to think critically, unusually, not to be afraid to take risks, to learn to ask effective questions that encourage students to engage in more creative and thought-stimulating processes. Various instruments are used for the development of thinking: creating thinking maps, asking reflective questions, analyzing thinking habits.
🌏 The concept of harmonious education
It is a holistic system of personality development of a modern child, which is implemented by combining four educational dimensions: intelligence, social awareness, communication and physical development.
